Bangladesh Emerging Women Avoid Whitewash with Thrilling Win Over South Africa
After losing the first two matches of the unofficial three-match ODI series, the Bangladesh Emerging Women’s Team avoided a series whitewash with a spirited 14-run victory over South Africa Emerging Women in the final ODI at the Bir Shreshtha Motiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram.
South Africa had already sealed the series 2–0, but the hosts bounced back in the third game with a much-improved performance. Winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh posted a challenging total of 253/8, their highest of the series after underwhelming totals of 179 and 151 in the previous two matches.
Opener Ishma Tanzim anchored the innings with a solid 57 off 83 balls, while Sumaiya Akter (38), Rubaiya Haider Jhillik (34), and Afiya Asima Ira (44) made valuable contributions in the middle order. However, the standout performance came from Swarna Akter, who played a blistering cameo of 41 off just 30 balls, including seven boundaries, to help push the total past the 250-run mark.
Swarna’s brilliance continued with the ball, as she claimed 3 wickets for 41 runs in 10 overs, helping restrict South Africa Emerging to 239 all out, securing a thrilling 14-run win for the home side.
Despite South Africa having already clinched the series with close wins in the first two matches — by 5 wickets and 2 wickets respectively — Bangladesh finished on a high, showcasing resilience and depth in their squad.
