Bangladesh Bowled Out for 191 on Day 1 of Sylhet Test
Bangladesh had a disappointing start to the Sylhet Test, getting bowled out for just 191 runs on the opening day. Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto’s decision to bat first after winning the toss backfired, as his team lasted just over 61 overs in the first innings.
The Zimbabwean bowlers were on target throughout, with Blessing Muzarabani and Wellington Masakadza picking up three wickets each to dismantle the Bangladesh batting lineup.
Bangladesh lost both openers early, but a brief period of stability came through a partnership between Shanto and Mominul Haque. By lunch, Bangladesh had reached 84 for 2 in 24 overs. However, rain interrupted the momentum, and soon after the break, Muzarabani dismissed Shanto for 40 with a sharp short ball.
Veteran Mushfiqur Rahim disappointed, scoring just 4 off 18 balls before falling to left-arm spinner Wellington Masakadza, caught at midwicket. Mominul Haque, who survived an early chance on 0, went on to score a fighting 56 off 105 balls — the highest of the innings — but failed to convert it into a big score.
The collapse continued as Mehidy Hasan Miraz was out in the very next over, managing just 4 runs before gloving another short ball from Muzarabani to the wicketkeeper.
Wicketkeeper Zakir Ali Anik contributed 28, and tailender Hasan Mahmud chipped in with 19 to offer some resistance, but it wasn't enough to take the total past 200.
Bangladesh's first innings ended at 191 in 61 overs — a total far below expectations on home soil.
