Skipper Shahadat Hossain remains unbeaten as Bangladesh finish strong in Chattogram
Bangladesh Emerging Team ended the first day of their four-day match against South Africa Emerging on a solid note, scoring 233 for 4 at stumps, thanks to a fine century by opener Ashiqur Rahman Shibli.
The match, taking place at the Bir Sreshtho Matiur Rahman Stadium in Chattogram, began today following Bangladesh Emerging's recent 2-1 ODI series win under the leadership of Akbar Ali.
Shibli was the standout performer of the day, notching up a composed 104-run innings, anchoring the top order after his opening partner Chowdhury Mohammad Rizwan was dismissed leg-before by Innocent Ntuli for 12, breaking a 69-run stand.
Aich Mollah, batting at number three, added 24 before falling to Andile Simelane, while Ariful Islam managed only 3 runs. However, captain Shahadat Hossain Dipu, who is also a member of the national Test squad, held the innings together with a calm, unbeaten 42 off 121 balls, including 2 fours and 1 six. He will resume the innings tomorrow alongside Pritom Kumar, who is currently on 31 not out.
Bangladesh’s strong foundation on day one sets the stage for a potentially dominant first-innings total as they look to build on their momentum from the ODI series.
