In a thrilling Bangladesh Premier League encounter, Noakhali Express defeated Rangpur Riders by 9 runs to register their first win of the tournament after losing their previous six matches. In the 20-over contest, both teams fought hard with bat and ball, but it was the composure of Noakhali’s bowlers that ultimately made the difference.
After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Noakhali Express lost their first wicket at 25 runs. Soumya Sarkar scored 31 while Habibur Rahman Sohan added 30. Jaker Ali played a crucial innings of 38 runs, and apart from Mahidul Islam Ankon’s 28 runs at the end, no other batter could make a significant contribution.
Noakhali were bowled out for 148 in 19.5 overs. Rangpur’s bowlers remained aggressive throughout the innings, keeping the Noakhali batting line-up under constant pressure. Mrittunjoy Chowdhury claimed a hat-trick, while Mustafizur Rahman picked up three wickets.
Chasing a target of 149, Rangpur Riders failed to get off to a good start, losing Dawid Malan and Litton Das early and falling under pressure. They tried to recover during the middle overs, but maintaining the required run rate proved difficult. Towhid Hridoy scored 29 and Iftikhar Ahmed made 37 before getting out. Despite the target remaining within reach towards the end, Noakhali’s bowlers struck at crucial moments to take control of the match. Khushdil Shah’s 24 runs could not change the outcome, as Rangpur eventually finished on 139 for 9 in their 20 overs.
