Abandoned Bangladesh-Pakistan Match
The rain in Rawalpindi put an end to the Bangladesh-Pakistan match in the ICC Champions Trophy, a game that ultimately held no significance. Bangladesh, who were desperately seeking a consolation win, were left disappointed as the match was called off due to the weather. However, there is a silver lining—Bangladesh managed to avoid the embarrassment of another loss. Without winning a single match, they will return home with 1 point, finishing third in their group.
The rain proved relentless. In the battle of the two eliminated teams, the weather emerged victorious, canceling the match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in the 'A' group of the Champions Trophy. Bangladesh players, however, had already extinguished any excitement about today’s match. If Bangladesh had won their previous game against New Zealand, today’s match would have had much more at stake.
At 6:13 PM Bangladesh time, the officials declared the match abandoned. Continuous rain prevented the toss, and the last possible time to start the game was set for 8:32 PM Bangladesh time. However, given the weather conditions, it was impossible for ground staff to make the pitch playable in time.
With two consecutive losses, both Bangladesh and Pakistan were eliminated from the Champions Trophy. Bangladesh will return home with 1 point, finishing third in the group. This was the first time these two teams were set to face each other in the ICC Champions Trophy, but rain prevented the match from happening. As a result, both teams shared the points, with Bangladesh finishing in third place in Group A.
Both teams had the same number of losses, but thanks to a better net run rate, Bangladesh ended up in third position. Meanwhile, Pakistan, finishing at the bottom, will conclude their home tournament on a disappointing note.
