Bangladesh couldn't grab their chances (dropped catch & review blunder). Kamindu Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva made the Sri Lankans see stars in the evening session. After losing five wickets for 57 runs, the team lost their sixth wicket at 259 runs. Until now, Bangladesh has had the upper hand in the first session of the Sylhet Test. The following session, however, was rather disappointing.

In the final session, Nahid Rana made the Sri Lankan batsmen struggle with pace, bounce, and movement. He dismissed two centurions in a single over, leaving Sri Lanka at 280 runs by the end of their first innings.

In the ongoing play of the first day of the Sylhet Test, the sight of consecutive catches was witnessed in the final session, courtesy of Kamindu Mendis and captain Dhananjaya de Silva. However, a breakthrough came in an over by Nahid Rana, where two catches were taken consecutively. Both batsmen fell victim to the catches. Later, another wicket was taken. After two wicketless sessions, Nahid Rana wreaked havoc in the evening, picking up crucial wickets.

Entering the second innings of his Test career, Kamindu faced his maiden century. However, he couldn't return to the pavilion as he was caught at second slip by Mahmudul Hasan off Shariful Islam's delivery. Kamindu then guided the team with a mature innings.

In the very next over after taking a catch, Dhananjaya de Silva fell to the gloves of Liton Das off Nahid Rana's ball. Despite not taking a review, Bangladesh was certain of the wicket after the television replay confirmed it.

Nahid Rana broke the partnership by taking Kamindu's wicket, caught by Abhishek off Liton's gloves, on the 126th ball. However, on the next ball after the catch, Dhananjaya de Silva was caught by Shariful Islam off Nahid's delivery, scoring 127. Nahid's breakthrough came in his 12th over. With Nahid's break-through, Sri Lanka lost their ninth wicket at 95 runs.

Struggling with pace, bounce, and movement, Praveen Jayawickrama couldn't hold on to the wicket. Nahid Rana took his third wicket, and Sri Lanka lost their ninth wicket at 19 runs. On the 19th ball, Vishwa Fernando caught by the wicketkeeper's gloves, bringing Bangladesh their ninth wicket.
