2027 ODI World Cup Final Schedule, Bangladesh to Begin Campaign Against England
The mega event of world cricket is set to take place across three African nations—South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia. According to information released by the ICC, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B of the much-anticipated tournament. The Tigers will begin their World Cup campaign on October 8 against the Three Lions, aiming to make a memorable start by defeating England.
The prestigious tournament will officially get underway on October 2, a date that carries significance as it marks the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. The main competition will begin on October 7, when the two finalists from the previous edition—India and defending champions Australia—will face each other at the historic Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. The excitement will reach another level on October 10, when arch-rivals India and Pakistan meet in a highly anticipated clash at the iconic Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg.
In the main phase of the World Cup, the 12 participating teams have been divided into two groups. Group A, led by India, will feature Australia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe and one team that will qualify through the Super Series.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh have been placed in Group B alongside hosts South Africa. The Tigers will face England, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and the final team to qualify from the preliminary stage.
According to the ICC schedule, Bangladesh face a challenging route in the group stage. After taking on England on October 8, the Tigers will face New Zealand on October 12 and Sri Lanka on October 16. Their final two group-stage matches will be against hosts South Africa on October 19 and the winner of the Super Series on October 23.
The tournament will then move into an innovative format, with the top seven teams from the group stage advancing to the ‘Super 7’ round. Running from October 25 to November 14, this stage will see all teams start afresh, with no points carried over from the group stage. Each team will play six more matches. As the ICC has predetermined the positions of the top teams, if any seeded team is eliminated, an unseeded team will have the opportunity to take its place.
The final chapter of cricket’s grand spectacle will begin with the knockout stage later next year. The first semi-final will be held in Cape Town on November 17, while the second semi-final will take place at SuperSport Park in Centurion on November 18. The tournament will then culminate in the grand final at the historic Wanderers Stadium on November 21, where the new champions of world cricket will be crowned.
