India Women strengthened their position in the race for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals with a convincing five-wicket victory over Bangladesh Women in a crucial Group A encounter. Chasing a target of 137 at Old Trafford in Manchester, India reached the total with 19 balls to spare.

After winning the toss, Bangladesh captain Nigar Sultana Joty elected to bat first. However, disciplined bowling from the Indian attack restricted Bangladesh to 136 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs.

Opener Juairiya Ferdous was the top scorer for Bangladesh, making 33 runs from 31 balls with the help of five boundaries. Captain Nigar Sultana contributed a valuable 32 off 27 deliveries. Sobhana Mostary added 22 runs, while Swarna Akter chipped in with 13, but Bangladesh failed to build any substantial partnerships.

Spinner Radha Yadav was the standout performer with the ball for India, claiming three wickets for 28 runs in her four overs. Shree Charani also impressed, taking two wickets while conceding just 21 runs in her four-over spell. Nandini Sharma and Renuka Singh picked up one wicket each.

In reply, India got off to a flying start thanks to opener Shafali Verma. After receiving an early reprieve in the opening over, she took control of the chase with an aggressive knock. Shafali smashed 53 runs from just 34 balls, including eight fours and a six. Number three batter Yastika Bhatia contributed 23 runs from 18 deliveries.

Bangladesh attempted to fight back in the middle overs when Ritu Moni struck twice to put India under some pressure. However, Jemimah Rodrigues all but sealed the contest with a quickfire 26 off 15 balls.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur remained unbeaten on 13, while Deepti Sharma finished the chase with a boundary as India secured victory in just 16.5 overs.

For Bangladesh, Ritu Moni took two wickets, while Marufa Akter, Nahida Akter and Rabeya Khan claimed one wicket each.
