The teams that finished in the top four of their respective groups at the ongoing ICC Women’s T20 World Cup have secured direct qualification for the 2028 edition of the tournament.

From Group 1, Australia, India, South Africa and Bangladesh have qualified, while England, West Indies, New Zealand and Sri Lanka have advanced from Group 2.

Pakistan have also secured a place in the 2028 Women’s T20 World Cup as the tournament hosts, despite finishing fifth in Group 2 with just one win in the ongoing competition.

Meanwhile, Scotland missed the chance to qualify directly after losing to Sri Lanka on Friday.

The 10th spot in the 12-team tournament will be awarded to the next highest-ranked team in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings at the July 6, 2026 cut-off. As things stand, ninth-ranked Ireland are in line to claim that place.

The remaining two spots will be decided through a 10-team Global Qualifier, featuring teams that progress through the regional qualification pathway.

The Netherlands, currently ranked 14th, are expected to go through the qualifying tournament to earn a place in the main event. Scotland (11th) and Ireland (9th) could also be forced into the qualifiers if they drop in the rankings before the July 6 cut-off.

The ICC has also confirmed the team composition for the inaugural Women’s Champions Trophy, which will be held in Sri Lanka next year. Hosts Sri Lanka will be joined by the top five teams in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings at the July 6 cut-off. Based on the current rankings, Australia, England, India, New Zealand and South Africa are on course to qualify for the tournament.
