The winds of change continue to sweep through Pakistan cricket. After reshuffling the leadership in the limited-overs formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now made a major change to the Test setup as well. Shan Masood has been removed as the captain of the Test side, with star batter Babar Azam set to reclaim the leadership in red-ball cricket.

The development has been confirmed by cricket website Cricinfo, citing a reliable source within the PCB. According to the report, the board was compelled to make the difficult decision following Pakistan’s string of disappointing performances in Test cricket, coupled with Shan Masood’s underwhelming record as captain.

Pakistan endured a disappointing run in the longest format under Masood’s leadership. A series of poor results, both at home and away, raised serious concerns among the PCB’s decision-makers and ultimately prompted the leadership change.

A senior PCB official said, “We have several important Test series coming up. Keeping the team’s stability and long-term success in mind, we have decided to hand the Test captaincy back to Babar. We hope that under his leadership, Pakistan’s Test team will bounce back and return to winning ways.”
