Afghanistan Secure Victory as Japan Bowled Out for Just 81

Afghanistan made a winning start to the Asian Games by defeating Japan by 48 runs in the opening match. In the low-scoring encounter, the Japanese batters struggled against Afghanistan’s impressive bowling attack.

After winning the toss, Japan opted to bowl first. Afghanistan scored 129 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Opener Akram top-scored for Afghanistan with 34 runs off 29 balls. Towards the end of the innings, a quickfire 25 from Ishaq helped Afghanistan post a competitive total.

For Japan, captain Ibrahim and Sugaya took two wickets each.

Chasing 130 runs for victory, the hosts came under immediate pressure from Afghanistan’s bowlers. Japan lost a wicket in the very first over and struggled to recover. Losing wickets at regular intervals, Japan were eventually bowled out for just 81 runs in 19.3 overs. Only Reo Sakib, who scored 23, and the Japanese captain, who made 17, managed to offer some resistance.

Young Afghan bowler Arab Gul delivered the standout performance with the ball. He claimed four crucial wickets for just eight runs in his four overs. Kharot took three wickets, while Ahmadzai claimed two.

Riding on their superb bowling performance, Afghanistan completed a comfortable 48-run victory to begin their Asian Games campaign on a winning note.
