Sri Lanka have finally announced their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Ahead of the tournament, which begins this Saturday, the selected squad features a few surprise inclusions, while experienced all-rounder Dhananjaya de Silva has been left out.

One of the most talked-about decisions in the squad selection is the recall of Kamindu Mendis. Although he had not been part of Sri Lanka’s recent plans, selectors have shown faith in him following Dhananjaya de Silva’s inconsistent performances. Failing to meet expectations as an all-rounder, Dhananjaya struggled to make an impact in the last few matches.

Young batter Pavan Rathnayake has been added as a new face in the squad. Though he was not initially in Sri Lanka’s World Cup plans, his impressive performances in the recent ODI series against England earned him a place in the T20 World Cup squad.

The selectors have retained Dasun Shanaka as captain, backing his leadership for the global tournament. Sri Lanka’s batting unit looks strong, featuring experienced players such as Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Kusal Perera and Charith Asalanka.

The bowling attack also appears well balanced. The pace department includes Dushmantha Chameera and Matheesha Pathirana, while the spin unit will be led by Wanindu Hasaranga, alongside Dunith Wellalage and Maheesh Theekshana.

Sri Lanka will begin their T20 World Cup campaign on February 8 against Ireland. They will then face Oman and Australia in Pallekele on February 12 and 16 respectively, before returning to Colombo to play their final group-stage match against Zimbabwe on February 19.
