Bulbul Dismisses Allegations of ICC Complaint as Baseless
Former Bangladesh captain and former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam Bulbul has strongly denied reports claiming that he asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to suspend funding for the BCB, describing the allegations as “completely false and baseless.” In a video message, Bulbul said he has never taken, and never would take, any step that could harm Bangladesh cricket.
A recent report by cricket website Cricbuzz claimed that Aminul Islam had sent a 14-page letter to the ICC questioning the legitimacy of the current elected BCB Board of Directors. The report further alleged that he had requested the ICC to halt all funding to Bangladesh cricket.
Following widespread discussion over the report, Bulbul addressed the issue through a video statement, categorically denying the allegations. He insisted that he had never requested the ICC to stop funding Bangladesh cricket and described the claim as entirely fabricated.
“I saw a report claiming that I had requested the ICC to stop funding Bangladesh. That is simply impossible, and I have never done such a thing. It is completely false. I would never ask the ICC to take any action that could harm Bangladesh cricket,” he said.
The former BCB president also alleged that he has been the target of a long-running campaign of misinformation. According to him, certain vested interests have repeatedly attempted to damage his reputation by spreading misleading information. He recalled that similar rumours had circulated during his time in office but were later proven to be false.
Referring to those incidents, Bulbul said, “When I was in the country, rumours were spread almost every day that I was leaving Bangladesh. Sometimes people claimed I was moving to Australia, and at other times to somewhere else. Those reports were eventually proven false. The people who tried to discredit me failed then, and they will fail again.”
He further questioned the credibility of the allegations by pointing out that he no longer has any significant influence within the ICC.
“The ICC does not make decisions based on the request of any individual. I no longer have the kind of direct access or influence within the ICC that would allow me to affect such major decisions. Why would the ICC listen to me? I simply do not have that level of access anymore,” he added.
