The International Cricket Council (ICC), the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) have reached an understanding following multiple discussions regarding the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The talks also included broader matters concerning the future of cricket in South Asia.
In a statement, the ICC said that although Bangladesh’s absence from the T20 World Cup is regrettable, the BCB remains a full member and an integral part of ICC, with the country playing a vital role in global cricket. The council assured that cricket development activities in Bangladesh, home to over 200 million passionate fans, will continue, and the team’s non-participation in the World Cup will have no long-term impact on cricket in the country.
According to the agreement, no financial, sporting, or administrative sanctions will be imposed on the Bangladesh Cricket Board regarding the current matter. Additionally, under ICC regulations, BCB retains the right to approach the Dispute Resolution Committee (DRC) if it chooses to do so.
As part of the understanding, it has been agreed that Bangladesh will host an ICC event before the ICC Cricket World Cup 2031. Hosting will, however, remain subject to the usual ICC selection processes, timelines, and operational requirements.
The ICC, PCB, and BCB also confirmed that cooperation, dialogue, and constructive engagement will continue in the future in the best interest of the sport.
ICC Chief Executive Sanjog Gupta said, “Bangladesh’s absence from the T20 World Cup is regrettable, but it does not affect the ICC’s long-term commitment to Bangladesh as a core cricketing nation. The ICC will continue working to ensure sustainable growth of cricket in the country.”
