BCB Clarifies Toss-Related Incident in U-19 World Cup Opener

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has clarified its position regarding an unintended incident that occurred during the toss ahead of the opening match of the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. In a statement issued in Dhaka on Saturday, the BCB said the incident was completely unintentional and carried no intent of unsporting behaviour.
Ahead of Bangladesh’s opening match against India Under-19 in the tournament being jointly hosted by Zimbabwe and Namibia, regular captain Azizul Hakim was unable to attend the toss due to illness. Vice-captain Zawad Abrar represented the team at the toss. However, discussion arose after there was no handshake with the opposing captain at that time.
The BCB clearly stated that the absence of a handshake was the result of a momentary lapse in concentration and was entirely unintentional. There was no intention to show any form of disrespect or disregard towards the opposition.
The statement further said that upholding the spirit of cricket and showing respect to opponents is a fundamental requirement for representing Bangladesh at any level. Viewing the matter with due seriousness, the Board immediately advised the team management accordingly. Players have also been reminded of their responsibility to maintain the highest standards of sportsmanship, camaraderie and mutual respect at all times.
