Century Built as Preparation for Australia Series, Says Hridoy

Mohammedan Sporting Club captain Towhid Hridoy guided his side to victory with a superb century against Legends of Rupganj in the Dhaka Premier League at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. After being named Player of the Match, the Bangladesh batter revealed that his innings was shaped with the upcoming Australia series in mind.

According to Hridoy, the opposition bowlers posed a strong challenge, but he used the opportunity to prepare for conditions similar to those he expects to face against Australia. With the series also set to be played in Mirpur, he approached his innings with a clear plan. Explaining his mindset, Hridoy said, “Obviously, their bowling was very good. Since the Australia series is coming up and the matches will be played here in Mirpur, I tried to bat in a way that would be similar to how I need to play against Australia. That was my plan. Alhamdulillah, it worked out well overall.”

Despite Australia’s reputation as one of the strongest teams in international cricket, Hridoy remains confident about Bangladesh’s chances at home. Pointing to the team’s dominant performances in recent series, he stressed that Bangladesh are also a formidable side on their own turf. He also highlighted the importance of contributions from the top order and the responsibility of the middle order when required. In his words, “Every team is strong in international cricket. Australia may be a big name, but we are also a big team in our own conditions, and we have delivered very dominant performances as a team in recent series. There will definitely be challenges. To post big totals, runs usually need to come from the top order. If our regular top-order batters fail to score, then it becomes the responsibility of the middle order to contribute as much as possible for the team.”

While the century was a significant personal achievement, Hridoy said he takes greater satisfaction from helping his team win. The batter also spoke about enjoying the leadership role that comes with captaining the side. Reflecting on his contribution, he said, “Alhamdulillah, it feels great to be able to contribute to the team. As a batter, my responsibility is to contribute to the team, and that is always what I try to do. I also captained the side last year, and I definitely enjoy the role.”
