After 15 years, Australia set to play ODI series in Bangladesh
After a long gap, Bangladesh is once again set to host the excitement of international cricket. Australia are scheduled to tour in June to play an ODI series, marking their return to this format on Bangladeshi soil after nearly a decade and a half.
Cricket Australia officially confirmed the tour schedule on Friday (April 17). According to the announcement, the visitors will play a full white-ball series in Bangladesh, featuring both ODIs and T20Is.
Australia last played an ODI series in Bangladesh in 2011. During that tour, a side led by Michael Clarke defeated Shakib Al Hasan’s team 3-0. Earlier, in 2006, Ricky Ponting’s Australia had also secured a 3-0 series win against a Bangladesh side captained by Habibul Bashar.
In the upcoming tour, the two teams will play three ODIs and three T20Is. The ODI series will begin on June 9, with the following matches scheduled for June 11 and June 14. All three games will be held at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur.
Following the ODI leg, the T20I series will take place on June 17, 19, and 21. These matches are set to be played at the Bir Sreshtho Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium.
It is worth noting that Australia last toured Bangladesh in 2021 for a T20I series, where the hosts delivered a dominant performance to win the series 4-1, adding extra intrigue to the upcoming contest.
