Bangladesh Secures Direct Spot in 2028 World Cup Despite Missing Current Tournament

There was much discussion at the start about Bangladesh’s absence from the ongoing T20 World Cup. One of the main concerns was that missing a major tournament might force them to go through the qualifying rounds in future events. However, that worry has been lifted as the International Cricket Council has already delivered encouraging news.

According to the new regulations, a total of twelve teams will directly participate in the main stage of the 2028 T20 World Cup, to be held in Australia and New Zealand. Among these, the eight teams that reached the Super Eight stage in the 2026 World Cup will automatically qualify. These teams are India, South Africa, Zimbabwe, West Indies, Sri Lanka, England, New Zealand, and Pakistan.

In addition, the two host countries and two more teams based on the latest international rankings will also directly qualify. As a host, Australia will take part in the main stage.

Meanwhile, New Zealand’s qualification for the Super Eight has opened up additional spots based on rankings. The countries benefiting are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Ireland. The council has stated that none of these three countries have any international T20 matches scheduled before March 9. As a result, there is no chance of change in their positions, and all three nations will directly participate in the 2028 World Cup.
