Confident Bangladesh Ready for Colombo Test After Galle Heroics

Following a spirited performance in the first Test in Galle, the Bangladesh camp is brimming with confidence ahead of the second and final Test against Sri Lanka, set to begin on Wednesday at the SSC Ground in Colombo.

Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Bangladesh head coach Phil Simmons discussed the team's preparations, injury updates, and selection considerations for the upcoming match.

Although the first Test ended in a draw, Bangladesh showcased dominance for significant stretches of the match. Simmons believes that momentum will carry into the second game.
"We’ve gained a lot of confidence from the last match. Traditionally, we start a bit slow in the first Test of a series, but this time the team was in rhythm from the beginning. Everyone is eager and confident going into the second match," said Simmons.

All-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who missed the first Test due to fever, is likely to return to the playing XI.
"He is currently the second-best all-rounder in the world. His inclusion will certainly strengthen both our batting and bowling. But it’s not just about Miraz—others need to step up too," Simmons emphasized.

Captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had sustained a finger injury before the first Test, picked up another minor knock ahead of the second. However, the coach confirmed that there is no major concern.
"He’s fine. It was a minor issue with his finger. There shouldn’t be any problem with him playing," he assured.

Simmons hinted that off-spinner Nayeem Hasan, who impressed in Galle, is likely to retain his spot.
"Regardless of the wicket, we’ll need to adapt. Nayeem bowled exceptionally well in Galle. Leaving him out would be difficult," he said.

The team management is still undecided on the bowling combination, with the final call to be made after pitch assessment.
"We’ll decide on match day whether to go with three spinners or three pacers," Simmons added.

Meanwhile, returning batter Anamul Haque Bijoy has come under pressure after scoring just 4 runs across both innings in Galle. Simmons, however, backed the struggling right-hander.
"He’s only played a few Tests. He did well against Zimbabwe. One bad match doesn’t mean we lose faith in him. He knows both innings were disappointing, and we’re hopeful he’ll bounce back," said the coach.

Simmons acknowledged the challenge of beating Sri Lanka at home but reiterated that Bangladesh will play for a win.
"Sri Lanka are a strong side, especially at home. But we’re not giving up. We tried to win in Galle, and we’ll be looking to do the same here. We just need to find the right path," he concluded.

The second Test will commence on Wednesday, June 25, at the SSC Ground in Colombo, with both teams aiming to clinch the series.
