Bangladesh Trail by 25 Runs After Day 2 in Sylhet Test
After conceding an 82-run first-innings lead, Bangladesh showed early signs of a fightback in their second innings on Day 2 of the Sylhet Test against Zimbabwe. The hosts reached 57 for 1 at stumps, still trailing by 25 runs, with Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Mominul Haque unbeaten at the crease.
Earlier in the day, Zimbabwe were bowled out for 273 in their first innings, surpassing Bangladesh’s 191 and taking a strong lead. Fast bowler Nahid Rana claimed 3 wickets before Mehidy Hasan Miraz spun through the Zimbabwean lineup, finishing with a brilliant 5 for 52—his 11th five-wicket haul in Tests, and third against Zimbabwe.
Despite the lower-order resistance from Richard Ngarava (28* not out) and Blessing Muzarabani (17), Miraz’s spell ensured Zimbabwe couldn’t extend their lead much further.
Bangladesh’s reply got off to a shaky start once again as opener Shadman Islam failed to deliver. He was dismissed for just 4 runs by Blessing Muzarabani in the 4th over, continuing the opening pair’s struggles in the series. He had managed only 12 runs in the first innings.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy, however, survived a scare on 18 after being given a second life and went on to steady the innings. He was joined by Mominul Haque, who looked comfortable at the crease and helped take Bangladesh to 57/1 in 13 overs by the close of play.
With two set batters at the crease, Bangladesh will look to erase the deficit and build a strong lead on Day 3 in their bid to turn the match around.
