Bangladesh's U-19 women's cricket team defeated Scotland by 18 runs to advance to the Super Six stage of the ICC U-19 Women's T20 World Cup. The tournament, held in Malaysia, features 16 teams, with 12 making it to the Super Six stage. From there, the top four teams will be determined. Bangladesh will face one of India, Sri Lanka, or the West Indies in their upcoming matches.
The Junior Tigresses kicked off their T20 World Cup campaign with a convincing victory over Nepal. However, they were narrowly defeated by Australia in a thrilling encounter that saw them lose by just 2 wickets in the final over. Today, they secured an exciting 18-run win in a low-scoring game against Scotland. Bangladesh finished as the second-best team in Group 'D', earning their place in the Super Six.
Batting first, Bangladesh posted a modest total of 122 runs, managing to hold onto the narrow lead. Captain Sumaiya Akter remained unbeaten on 29 from 36 balls. Wicketkeeper-batter Juairiya Ferdous, who came in at number three, contributed 20 runs, while Afia Ashima made 21 runs off 19 balls. In the end, Bangladesh lost 9 wickets, finishing with 121 runs.
Scotland’s chase began poorly, losing both openers with just 19 runs on the board. However, Pippa Spraul and Niamh Muir formed a 50-run partnership, taking Scotland closer to the target. Bangladesh's Habiba Islam Pinki broke the partnership by dismissing captain Niamh for 22 runs, and that proved to be a turning point as Scotland's momentum stalled.
Scotland managed just 103 runs in 20 overs, losing 8 wickets in the process. Pippa Spraul was the top scorer for Scotland, with 43 runs off 41 balls.
With this victory, Bangladesh has advanced to the Super Six stage, where they will compete in two more matches in Group 1. Following that, they will aim for a spot in the semifinals and the final.
