BCB Announces Three Vice-Captains Across Formats, Clarifies Captains Tenure

After a long period without clarity on vice-captaincy roles in Bangladesh cricket, the wait is finally over. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially named three different vice-captains for the three formats, confirming the appointments through a press release on Tuesday (18 November).

According to the announcement,

Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been appointed Test vice-captain,

Najmul Hossain Shanto has been named ODI vice-captain, and

Saif Hassan will take over as the T20I vice-captain.

Test Team: Shanto to Lead Till End of WTC Cycle, Miraz Named Deputy

BCB has confirmed that Najmul Hossain Shanto will remain Bangladesh’s Test captain until the end of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship cycle. During this period, Mehidy Hasan Miraz will serve as his deputy in red-ball cricket.

ODI Team: Miraz Continues as Captain, Shanto as Vice-Captain

In June this year, Mehidy Hasan Miraz was handed a one-year captaincy term for the ODI team. BCB has now announced that Shanto will serve as the vice-captain in the 50-over format.

T20I Team: Litton to Lead Till 2026 World Cup, Saif Named Vice-Captain

For the shortest format, Litton Das will captain Bangladesh until the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup. Right-hand batter Saif Hassan—who previously captained Bangladesh at age-level cricket and led the U-19 side in a World Cup—has been rewarded for his performances and is appointed T20I vice-captain.

Although Saif has not previously been part of the senior national leadership group, his background in age-group captaincy has strengthened his case.
