Asif Mahmud Could Not Reach the Stadium in Time to Watch the Match Due to Traffic Jam
After the end of the first day’s play of the Bangladesh vs Ireland Test, Youth and Sports Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan arrived at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. He had hoped to catch the final over of the day’s play, but due to unexpected circumstances, he could not make it to the ground while the match was still on.
Facing the media in the press conference, Asif Bhuiyan explained what had happened. Revealing the reason behind coming to the stadium after stumps, he said,
"I mainly wanted to at least watch the last over, and sincec was close to a century, I rushed to come. But I couldn’t reach the stadium because of the heavy traffic. However, I will try, Insha’Allah, to watch Mushfiq bhai’s century tomorrow."
He further said,
"Yesterday, our national football team defeated India for the first time in nearly 22 years — and that too on home soil. At the same time, today Mushfiq bhai became the first Bangladeshi player to play 100 Test matches. I was busy with meetings all day, so I reached a bit late and couldn’t watch the play. He finished the day on 99, and I hope Mushfiq bhai scores a century tomorrow in his 100th Test."*
Mushfiqur Rahim remained unbeaten on 99 at stumps on Day 1. Until he completes a century in his 100th Test, that one-run wait continues. Asif Mahmud is hopeful that the century will come tomorrow.
"A little suspense is good. I hope the century will come tomorrow. The fact that Mushfiq bhai is scoring a hundred in his 100th Test shows he still has a lot more cricket left in him. This won’t stop at the 100th Test — he will go even further."
