Cricketers of Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) franchise Sylhet Titans were felicitated in Jokiganj of Sylhet on Sunday (December 28). The programme was held at Moulvibazar Sair Ali High School and was initiated by Fahim Al Chowdhury, adviser to Sylhet Titans and a prominent businessman.
Organised by the Fahim Al Chowdhury Trust, the felicitation ceremony took place at the school’s Fahim Al Chowdhury Auditorium. Five Sylhet Titans cricketers—Nasum Ahmed, Rahatul Ferdous Jabed, Khaled Ahmed, Ethan Brooks and Saim Ayub—were present at the event. Also in attendance was Md Fakhrul Islam, father of franchise owner Mahidul Islam Sami.
Local cricket fans began gathering at the school premises from early morning to catch a glimpse of their favourite cricketers. The guests were welcomed with floral greetings and slogans. With the participation of around 500 students of the school and nearly one thousand cricket enthusiasts from surrounding areas, the programme turned into a festive cricket celebration.
Speeches were delivered by the headmaster of Moulvibazar Sair Ali High School, Mohammad Shabbir Ahmed, and ATM Selim Chowdhury, vice-president of the Fahim Al Chowdhury Trust. The speakers encouraged students to remain focused on their studies while also developing an interest in sports.
According to the organisers, the main objective of the event was to create opportunities for students to interact directly with professional cricketers and to inspire a positive attitude towards sports.
It is worth mentioning that the Fahim Al Chowdhury Trust carries out various social welfare activities in Sylhet, including bearing educational expenses of students, providing scholarships, and offering other forms of social assistance.
