NSC Revokes Faruk Ahmed’s Appointment, Ends His Tenure as BCB President
NSC Revokes Faruk Ahmed’s Appointment, Ends His Tenure as BCB President
The National Sports Council (NSC) of Bangladesh has officially revoked Faruk Ahmed’s nomination as a director of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), effectively stripping him of his position as BCB President as well. This move follows increasing pressure and internal dissent within the board.
Faruk Ahmed was appointed as a BCB director under the government quota after the July Movement and was subsequently elected as BCB President. However, less than nine months into his tenure, he has been forced to step down due to mounting opposition and allegations of mismanagement.
The Ministry of Youth and Sports, under which the NSC operates, issued an official notification cancelling his directorship. The notification states:
“In accordance with Article 13.2(b)(4) of the BCB constitution and based on the majority no-confidence proposal submitted by eight sitting directors of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, along with findings from the fact-finding committee related to the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), the National Sports Council has decided to revoke the previous nomination of Mr. Faruk Ahmed in the interest of maintaining normal operations of the BCB.”
The notice further instructs relevant authorities to take the necessary actions following the cancellation of his nomination.
This decision marks a dramatic shift in the BCB's leadership and comes amidst ongoing turbulence in Bangladesh cricket administration. Faruk Ahmed’s removal reflects broader governance concerns and political influence within the country's premier cricket body.
