New Twist in BCB Investigation: Deadline Extended for Jahanaras Written Complaint

The independent investigation committee has extended the submission deadline at the request of the main complainant. Former Bangladesh women’s team captain Jahanara Alam has not yet submitted her written complaint. Based on her appeal, the BCB’s independent investigation committee has extended the deadline by 15 working days, and according to the new timeline, the report will be submitted on December 20, 2025.

A committee member, speaking on condition of anonymity, told the media, “The main complainant herself requested additional time. To ensure a fair and transparent investigation, we have extended the deadline. Our goal is to thoroughly examine every aspect of the allegations.”

In the first week of November, Jahanara Alam publicly alleged on freelance sports journalist Riyasad Azim’s YouTube channel that she had been sexually harassed during her time in the national team.

The former fast bowler’s allegations were directed toward former women’s team selector and manager, former national pacer Monjurul Islam, and the late department in-charge Towhid Mahmud. She also raised serious accusations against several other individuals.

Initially, a three-member investigation committee was formed. Later, on November 9, two more members were added. They were originally instructed to submit the final report within 15 working days. After the deadline passed, questions arose regarding the progress of the investigation. Following Jahanara’s request, the committee extended the timeline and set a new deadline.

Jahanara stated that she had previously reported her concerns to relevant authorities within the board but received no remedy. Therefore, going public with the allegations became necessary for her. Her interview sparked significant discussion within the BCB and the country’s sports community.

Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) has called for the inclusion of two independent experts in the committee. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Youth and Sports had earlier instructed all federations under the National Sports Council to form complaint committees.

On Tuesday, the BCB said in a press release that they are committed to conducting a fair and transparent investigation throughout the process. The board stated, “Players’ safety and the development of women’s cricket are our top priorities.”

Cricket fans and former players are closely watching the committee’s final report. They hope the investigation will be completed impartially and set an important precedent for ensuring the safety and rights of players in the future.
