The Bangladesh team will depart for the UAE next Sunday to take part in the Asia Cup. Since making their debut in the tournament in 1986, the Tigers have reached the final three times (2012, 2016, and 2018) but have never lifted the trophy. This time, however, fast bowler Taskin Ahmed has expressed strong determination to end that drought and win the title.

Speaking to reporters on Friday (September 5) at the inauguration of a shopping mall in Dhaka, Taskin said:

“We’re not going there just to participate. We’ve won three series in a row, which gives us great confidence. But T20 is a game of uncertainty—any small team can beat a big one, and one over can change the whole game. We’ve played finals before, and the only thing left is to become champions. Inshallah, this time it will be possible.”

The pacer also put faith in Bangladesh’s recent success, noting that the three consecutive T20 series wins have boosted team confidence.

“By the grace of Allah, we’ve won three series in a row. A few months ago, I said we were going through a transition phase, which is why we lost some matches. But now we’re in good form. Players and coaching staff are all working very hard. If we can maintain consistency, good results will definitely come.”

Taskin’s message was clear: Bangladesh’s goal this time is not just to participate—the target is to become champions.
