Bangladesh has put itself in a commanding position at the end of Day 3 of the Kingston Test against the West Indies. After a phenomenal bowling performance by Nahid Rana, the visitors made an aggressive statement with the bat in their second innings. Despite losing a few quick wickets, they have managed to stretch their lead to 211 runs, with five wickets still in hand.
On a day where Bangladesh dominated with both bat and ball, Nahid Rana stood out with his career-best performance of 5 wickets for 61 runs. This was his first-ever five-wicket haul in Test cricket. His exceptional bowling ensured that the West Indies were bowled out for just 146 runs in their first innings, giving Bangladesh a crucial 18-run lead. This was the second time in Test history that Bangladesh had taken a first-innings lead after scoring less than 200 runs.
Bangladesh’s Batting on Day 3: In their second innings, Bangladesh began aggressively, but they lost their first wicket early. Mahmudul Hasan Joy was dismissed for a duck in the opening over from Jayden Seales. However, Shahadat Hossain Dipu, who came in at number 3, counterattacked well, hitting some attractive shots. His innings of 28 runs off 26 balls, including 4 boundaries, was promising but short-lived as he was caught at mid-off off the bowling of Alzarri Joseph.
Following Shahadat’s dismissal, Sadman Islam and Mehedi Hasan Miraz steadied the ship with a solid partnership. The pair added 70 runs in 74 balls before Sadman was dismissed for 46 runs, just four runs short of a half-century. Miraz continued his aggressive approach, scoring 42 runs off 39 balls, with 7 boundaries, which helped accelerate Bangladesh’s score.
Litton Das, who had been playing steadily, was dismissed for 25 runs after being bowled by Alzarri Joseph. The lower order, including Zakir Ali Anik and Taijul Islam, then carried Bangladesh to the close of play with the team at 5 wickets for 193. Zakir is unbeaten on 29, and Taijul has made 9 runs so far.
With a lead of 211 runs, the West Indies will face a tough challenge to claw their way back into the game, needing a strong batting performance in their second innings.
