Dinesh Karthik Steps into Record Books with 250th IPL Match. Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has achieved a new milestone by playing in his 250th Indian Premier League (IPL) match today, Sunday. He set this record during a match against his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders, at Eden Gardens.
Karthik has been in excellent form this IPL season, playing regularly for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Additionally, he has captivated fans with his aggressive batting performances, making him the third-highest run scorer for Bangalore.
Prior to Karthik, only two other cricketers had played 250 IPL matches—Rohit Sharma, the former captain of Mumbai Indians, and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former captain of Chennai Super Kings. Rohit reached this milestone earlier this season on April 18, during a match against Punjab Kings.
Virat Kohli is close to joining this elite list, having played 245 matches so far. There are a total of 10 players who have played over 200 IPL matches, all of whom are Indian.
Among foreign players, Kieron Pollard holds the record for most IPL matches played, with 189 matches to his name. The former West Indies cricketer is followed by South African star AB de Villiers, who has played in 184 matches.
Recently, Karthik expressed his readiness for the upcoming T20 World Cup, eagerly awaiting a chance to be part of the Indian squad. He also mentioned that this season would be his last participation in the IPL, signaling the end of an illustrious stint in the league.
