West Indies posted a formidable total of 450 runs in their first innings, with a standout partnership between Justin Greaves and Kemar Roach. After ending Day 1 with 250 runs for the loss of 5 wickets, the hosts found themselves in a precarious situation early on Day 2, losing 2 quick wickets to Hassan Mahmud. However, Greaves and Roach mounted a remarkable fightback.
Kemar Roach shared their plan for recovery after the early setbacks: "We lost the wickets of Josh and Alzarri quickly. Our plan was to build a partnership and aim for a total around 300, 350, or even 400 runs."
Roach and Greaves formed a stunning 140-run partnership, and it was this crucial stand that helped West Indies reach 450 runs. Speaking about their successful partnership, Roach explained the chemistry they shared: "The communication between me and Justin during our batting partnership was fantastic. We are from the same country, and having Justin with me in such a situation made all the difference. We make good partners both on and off the field, and our conversations really helped us build this partnership."
Greaves played an exceptional knock, remaining unbeaten on 115 runs. Roach was full of praise for his teammate, saying, "Justin Greaves played an outstanding innings. He is eager to learn and asks many questions. He has done really well, and I encourage him to keep going. He has so much more to show. It was heartbreaking for me not to be there with him when he scored his century. I really wanted to hug him."
Roach also reflected on West Indies' overall batting performance, saying, "As a batting group, we did really well. We contributed to setting a total of 400-450 runs. The pitch was good, and we are a very competent team. We will have some discussions tonight, and we plan to continue our good form in the upcoming days."
With this commanding total, West Indies set Bangladesh a challenging target of 450, and despite the early breakthroughs by Hasan Mahmud, the visitors will need to dig deep to keep up with the growing pressure.
