David Warner's Career: Over Yet Not Over

After this year's T20 World Cup, Australian opener David Warner retired from the shortest format of cricket. He had already retired from One Day Internationals (ODIs) and Test cricket. This means Warner has officially ended his international cricket chapter. But no, even after ending, it hasn’t truly ended.

Despite concluding his international career, Warner has recently expressed his willingness to play again if needed by the team.

In a lengthy Instagram post, Warner wrote, “End of a chapter! Playing cricket at the highest level for so long has been an incredible experience. My team was Australia. Most of my career games were at the international level. It has been a great honor for me to do this. Over a hundred matches in all formats are etched in my memory.”

Warner always had his family's support throughout his international cricket journey. Thanking them upon his departure, he wrote, “I want to thank everyone who made this possible. My wife and daughters, who have made many sacrifices, thank you for your support. No one knows what we have gone through.”

Addressing his fans, Warner said Test cricket has changed Australia, “I hope I have entertained you and changed cricket, especially Test cricket, where perhaps we score runs a bit faster than others.”

He further stated his willingness to play in the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy if needed by the team. “It’s impossible to do beloved things without fans; I will play franchise cricket for a while longer. If selected, I will also play in the Champions Trophy. I am grateful to the players and staff for their trust in me. There won’t be any more files on WhatsApp. Your ears are now free from my voice. This team has achieved incredible things over the past few years, and I hope it continues.”
