In the ongoing Test match in Chittagong, South Africa has set a formidable total of 575 runs in their first innings, thanks to three centuries from their batsmen. However, Bangladesh faced a catastrophic collapse in their response, losing four wickets for just 38 runs.
Bangladesh's batting lineup crumbled early, starting with opener Saadman Islam being dismissed for a duck by Kagiso Rabada in the very first over. Zakir Hasan managed only 2 runs before also falling to Rabada, leaving Bangladesh in dire straits at 29 runs with three wickets down. Mahmudul Hasan Joy was the next to go, contributing just 10 runs before falling to Dan Patterson, pushing Bangladesh further behind by 537 runs.
The conditions in Chittagong appeared favorable for batting, as evidenced by South Africa's confident performance. In stark contrast, Bangladesh's top order faltered before they could even accumulate 30 runs. With the day's play ending prematurely, Bangladesh ended up at 38 runs for 4 wickets after just 9 overs, with Mominul Haque on 6 and Najmul Hossain Shanto not out on 4.
Zakir Hasan’s hasty return to the national squad followed a brief stint in the National Cricket League, where he played just two and a half days of cricket before heading to Chittagong. Unfortunately, he faced a quick dismissal after facing only 8 balls.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy's early dismissal left Bangladesh scrambling, and the team resorted to sending nightwatchman Hasan Mahmud to the crease. However, he too fell victim to Keshav Maharaj’s spin, getting bowled for just 3 runs.
With their backs against the wall, Bangladesh will need a strong performance from the remaining batsmen if they hope to recover in this Test match. The team is currently facing a monumental task as they look to overcome a massive deficit against a dominant South African side
