West Indies star all-rounder Dwayne Bravo has been appointed as the mentor for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) starting from the upcoming season. Bravo takes over this role from Gautam Gambhir, who has served as the team’s mentor until now.
KKR officials confirmed Bravo’s appointment in a statement released on Friday. Notably, Bravo announced his retirement from all forms of cricket just a day prior. He was a key member of the West Indies teams that won the T20 World Cup in 2012 and 2016.
In his statement regarding the KKR role, Bravo expressed his admiration for the franchise, saying, "For the past 10 years, I have been part of the Trinbago Knight Riders in the CPL. I have immense respect for the way they operate, having played for and against Knight Riders in various leagues."
Bravo has previously worked with the Chennai Super Kings during the last IPL season and has been involved with Afghanistan’s coaching staff during the ODI World Cup. He has played the majority of his matches for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL.
KKR CEO Venky Mysore commented on Bravo's inclusion, stating, "DJ Bravo joining us is fantastic news. His vast experience and deep knowledge will significantly benefit our franchise and players in winning matches."
Throughout his illustrious career, Dwayne Bravo has played 582 T20 matches, taking 631 wickets and scoring nearly 7,000 runs.
