A few days ago, Bangladesh achieved a whitewash against Pakistan at Rawalpindi. However, on their tour of India, Najmul Hossain Shanto's team faced the humiliation of being whitewashed themselves. Now, as the Tigers begin a new Test series on home soil, they once again succumbed to familiar batting failures. Bangladesh was all out for just 106 runs in their first innings.
Winning the toss against South Africa didn’t bring Bangladesh any relief. Before the lunch break, they lost six wickets for only 60 runs. After lunch, the remaining four wickets fell quickly, leading to a dismal innings. Only four batsmen managed to reach double figures.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy was holding one end together, scoring 30 runs off 97 balls before he too returned to the pavilion with unfinished work. Mushfiqur Rahim presented the cap to the country's 105th cricketer, Zakir Ali Anik, but Zakir couldn't make his debut memorable, managing only 2 runs.
Keshav Maharaj wrapped up Bangladesh's innings by bowling out the last batsman, Taijul Islam. Bangladesh's innings concluded at just 106 runs after 40.1 overs.
Bangladesh captain Shanto explained that they chose to bat first because the wicket was dry, making batting difficult in the fourth innings. South African captain Aiden Markram also mentioned that he would have opted to bat had he won the toss. After losing the toss and being invited to bowl, South Africa made a strong start, while Bangladesh began to crumble with a string of wickets.
