The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is set to hold an emergency board meeting online today at 4 PM via Zoom, with BCB President Faruk Ahmed and other directors participating. Several important issues are expected to be discussed during the session.
The meeting comes amid ongoing discussions regarding the BCB's decision to transfer a substantial amount of fixed deposit (FDR) funds from several banks to others. In response to the public scrutiny, the BCB issued a statement yesterday explaining that the transfers were made to ensure better security of the board’s funds and to achieve higher returns. They also alleged that misleading information was deliberately spread to tarnish the image of the board and its president.
The last scheduled board meeting was supposed to take place on March 24. However, it was canceled when BCB directors and top officials rushed to the hospital following the illness of cricketer Tamim Iqbal. Since then, the directors had not convened until now.
At the previous meeting, the board had made several bold decisions, including updates on player contracts, enhancing the quality of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and strengthening domestic cricket.
