Technical Glitch Forces Cancellation of Punjab vs Delhi Match in Dharamshala; BCCI Issues Apology
The Indian Premier League (IPL) management has officially announced the cancellation of the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, originally scheduled to be held at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamshala. According to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the decision was made due to a technical fault involving the stadium’s lighting system.
A power outage reportedly caused one of the floodlight towers at the stadium to malfunction, leading to a blackout that halted play during Punjab Kings’ batting innings at 10.1 overs. Despite prior government approval and scheduled programming, the match could not continue.
Earlier in the evening, the BCCI had arranged a special tribute to honor the Indian Army’s bravery. Renowned singer B Praak performed at the stadium from 7:00 PM, as part of the tribute, before the match was set to begin.
The BCCI has expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to fans who were present at the stadium, reiterating their commitment to resolving such technical issues swiftly in the future. While broadcasters initially reported the delay as a temporary stoppage due to floodlight failure, the match was eventually declared abandoned—though the exact cause of the blackout remains unclear, fueling speculation.
