World Test Championship Final Race Heats Up
The race to reach the World Test Championship final has intensified. Following India's defeat in the series against New Zealand, their path to the final has become more challenging, creating opportunities for several other teams. Let’s take a closer look.
India
India remains at the top of the World Test Championship points table with a percentage of 62.82. However, after the recent series loss, they face a tough road ahead. India has one remaining Test against New Zealand and five more against Australia. To secure a spot in the final, India needs to win at least four out of these six matches.
Australia
Currently positioned slightly behind India in second place, Australia has upcoming matches against both India and Sri Lanka. If Australia wins five out of their remaining seven matches, their percentage will rise to 65.79, which should be enough for them to qualify for the final.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka has a great opportunity to advance to the final after winning their last three Tests. If they can win all four remaining matches against South Africa and Australia, their percentage will reach 69.23, surpassing both India and Australia. However, if they win only three matches, they will need to rely on the performance of other teams.
New Zealand
New Zealand currently sits fourth in the points table with a percentage of 50. If they win all four of their remaining Tests—one against India and three against England—their percentage will increase to 64.29, putting them in contention for the final.
South Africa
South Africa is in fifth place with a percentage of 47.61. If they win all five of their remaining Tests, they will finish with a percentage of 69.44, securing a spot in the top two. Even if they win four out of the five matches, they will still have a chance to qualify.
As the competition heats up, every match will be crucial for these teams in their quest for the World Test Championship final.
