The chapter of English coach Julian Wood with the Bangladesh national cricket team is coming to an end. Serving as the power-hitting coach, Wood will not have his contract renewed by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). He will remain with the team until September 3, after which his tenure will conclude.
BCB director Nazmul Abedin Fahim confirmed the development. Following the board meeting in Sylhet on Monday, he told the media, “The contract with Julian Wood is until September 3. It is limited to a few more days, and that’s where it will end.”
Rumors had recently circulated that Wood might be assigned to work with age-level teams, the High Performance (HP) unit, or other BCB structures. However, Fahim dismissed that possibility outright, stating there is currently no need for additional coaches within the board. “If required later, we might bring him back, or someone like him. We already have a batting coach who will handle the batting. If needed, head coach Phil Simmons can also step in. At the moment, we don’t need so many coaches. When we feel the need, we’ll consider it again.”
With Wood’s departure, the responsibility of the national team’s batting will fall on Mohammad Salahuddin, who is already with the Tigers. Salahuddin has previously worked with the national side at different times and is widely regarded as one of the country’s finest coaches. Additionally, head coach Phil Simmons will also be available to provide support in batting matters whenever necessary.
