Two Australian Women Cricketers Harassed in Indore, Suspect Arrested
Two members of the Australian women’s cricket team, currently in India for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, were allegedly sexually harassed in Indore on Thursday morning. The incident took place near Khajrana Road in Madhya Pradesh.
According to police reports, the two players were walking from their hotel to a nearby café when a man on a motorcycle followed them and behaved inappropriately before fleeing the scene.
The players immediately informed the team’s security manager, Danny Symons, who contacted local security officials and dispatched assistance to the area.
Following the complaint filed by Symons at the MIG Police Station, police registered a case under Sections 74 (outraging a woman’s modesty) and 78 (stalking) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) — India’s new criminal code — and arrested the accused.
The suspect, identified as Aqil Khan, reportedly has multiple prior criminal cases against him. Assistant Commissioner of Police Himani Mishra confirmed that the arrest was made after police traced the motorcycle number provided by an eyewitness.
The Australian women’s team is currently staying at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Indore.
