Thrilling Finish as Sohags Bat Powers Durbaar to Dramatic Two-Wicket Win
The momentum of the match swung back and forth even before the final over, but it was Durbaar who had the last laugh. When victory and defeat were separated by a single shot, Nurul Hasan Sohag used his experience to drag his team over the line. The second match of the Adomya Bangladesh T20 Cup at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium ultimately turned into a heart-stopping thriller.
On Friday, Durbaar defeated Dhumketu XI by two wickets. Batting first, Dhumketu posted 156 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Durbaar, under pressure for most of the chase, reached the target with three balls to spare.
Chasing 157, Durbaar were virtually out of the contest at one stage. After 14 overs, the scoreboard read a worrying 81 for 6, and defeat appeared inevitable. It was at this critical juncture that Sohag took charge. Partnering Mohammad Saifuddin, he stitched together a crucial 41-run stand for the seventh wicket to revive the chase.
Saifuddin fell for a brisk 19 off 13 balls, making the equation even tougher for Durbaar. However, Sohag then produced his finest moment. In the 19th over, he launched a brutal assault on Shariful Islam, smashing four towering sixes to collect 26 runs. What had been 33 required off 12 balls was suddenly reduced to just seven needed from seven deliveries.
The drama was far from over. Sohag was run out on the second ball of the final over with four runs still required, instantly plunging the match back into uncertainty. Holding his nerve, Hasan Mahmud rose to the occasion and struck a classy drive off Mukidul Islam Mugdho for four on the third ball, sealing a memorable win for Durbaar with three balls remaining.
Earlier, Dhumketu captain Liton Das led from the front with a responsible 43 off 37 balls, while Mehedi Hasan remained unbeaten on 31. With the ball, off-spinner Sheikh Mehedi Hasan was the standout performer, claiming four wickets for just 11 runs to exert significant influence on the match. Despite the defeat, Dhumketu remain on top of the points table thanks to a superior net run rate.
