The boards position on Shakib is clear, the decision now rests with the government
In Bangladesh cricket, Shakib Al Hasan has seemingly become the name of an unresolved chapter. Beyond his on-field performances, the star all-rounder remains entangled in administrative and legal complexities, once again placing his return to the national team at the center of discussion. After weeks of intermittent speculation, the debate has regained momentum — will he return or not, and if so, when? These questions are now circulating from dressing rooms to social media platforms.
This time, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Vice President Faruque Ahmed has spoken about the possibility of the country’s premier all-rounder making a comeback. Addressing the media after an iftar event organized by the Bangladesh Sports Journalists Association (BSJA), he attempted to clarify the board’s stance. He also elaborated on the recent legal procedures and administrative formalities involved.
Speaking about the board’s responsibilities regarding the matter, Faruque Ahmed said, “Regarding Shakib’s issue, whatever was required from the cricket board’s side, the necessary case documents have been submitted to the appropriate authorities. Now the government will make the decision, and of course, we have completed the tasks that were required from our end.”
His remarks make it clear that the matter now entirely depends on the government’s decision. In other words, although the cricket board has completed its administrative procedures, Shakib’s path back to the field will remain uncertain until final approval or resolution is granted. As a result, the atmosphere of uncertainty persists, and the wait continues to grow longer.
Meanwhile, the BCB vice president also addressed the overall environment within the cricketing fraternity. He emphasized the importance of maintaining balanced relationships among players, board officials, and journalists. During the post-iftar discussion, Faruque highlighted the need for coordination and mutual understanding among all stakeholders.
Addressing everyone associated with cricket, he said, “I believe that all of us who are involved in cricket — the cricket board, players, journalists — maintaining a balance among everyone connected to cricket is very important. Because ultimately, we all share the same goal.”
His comments suggest that beyond the issue of a single player’s return, the greater interest of Bangladesh cricket requires harmony and cooperation among all concerned. For now, however, all eyes remain on the government’s decision — which will ultimately determine whether Shakib Al Hasan will once again wear the national jersey or if this chapter of uncertainty will continue.
