Sunil Narine Confirms He Will Not Return to West Indies Team. There had been discussions about whether Sunil Narine would return to the West Indies team jersey. Now, Narine himself has confirmed that this door has closed, primarily by his own decision. His excellent performance with both bat and ball in the current IPL season had sparked new discussions about his possible return, especially with the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Narine, who is currently 35 years old, recently played an unbeaten inning of 109 runs off 56 balls against Rajasthan Royals, showcasing the vigor of a youthful batter. He is currently at the top of the MVP list in the IPL, and as a bowler for Kolkata Knight Riders, he jointly leads with 9 wickets.

The West Indies T20 captain, Rovman Powell, had recently mentioned that they had been in discussions with Narine, hoping he would consider playing for the West Indies again, especially as the World Cup will be hosted on home soil—a dream and opportunity beckoning for the West Indies.

Narine announced his retirement from international cricket in November 2023 and last played for the West Indies in 2019. In a statement, he made it clear that he will not be returning to the national team.

Narine wrote:

"Following my recent performances, many have expressed their wishes for me. Many hope I would come out of retirement to play in the upcoming T20 World Cup. However, I am firm in my decision and do not want to disappoint them—the door is now closed. I will be there to support those who will play for West Indies in June. Those who have been working hard over the past few months have the capability to win another trophy for our fantastic supporters. I wish them all the best."
