Tanzid–Imon: New Six-Hitting Records Under the Shadow of Old Friendship
The friendship from youth cricket, the memories of a World Cup triumph—together, Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Parvez Hossain Imon are now writing a new chapter in Bangladesh cricket. From their journey in age-level cricket to opening together in the 2020 ICC U19 World Cup, the duo has now reunited in the national jersey with a fresh rhythm.
That old understanding has now resurfaced in international cricket. In the second T20I against the Netherlands in Sylhet, the Tanzid–Imon partnership played a key role in Bangladesh’s victory. Chasing a modest 104, their opening stand helped secure a 9-wicket win, clinching the series with one match to spare.
And in this very game, the pair also set a brand-new record for sixes in an opening partnership.
Success through Understanding, Not Planning
Their 40-run opening stand wasn’t built on risky strokes or a pre-planned six-hitting strategy. Yet, together they set the record for the most sixes by a Bangladeshi opening pair.
In fact, Tanzid and Parvez have now set a new milestone in 2025—smashing 45 sixes as an opening pair in international cricket, the highest ever in a single calendar year for Bangladesh.
Individually, Tanzid Hasan tops the six-hitting chart for Bangladesh this year, with 23 sixes in 13 T20I innings—the most ever by a Bangladeshi batter in a calendar year. Right behind him is Imon, with 22 sixes in 12 innings. The rivalry between the two friends could well shape into a fascinating contest for the six-hitting crown in 2025.
After the match, Tanzid said:
“There wasn’t any special plan to hit sixes. We just played normally, according to the wicket’s behavior. Our understanding is really good, and from that confidence, big partnerships come naturally.”
His words highlighted what fuels their success—not individual planning, but mutual understanding. Having played together since the youth level, their chemistry has carried into the national side, forming an effective partnership.
“Imon and I just try to play normal cricket. We assess the wicket and bat accordingly. Our communication and clarity of purpose help us build strong innings,” added Tanzid.
On the day, he played a sparkling knock of 54 off 40 balls with 4 fours and 2 sixes. He first shared a 40-run stand with Imon, then partnered captain Litton Das in an unbroken 64-run stand to finish the chase.
The innings not only secured victory for Bangladesh but also showcased Tanzid’s growing maturity as a batter.
A Mature Approach, Focused on the Present
Tanzid doesn’t dwell on the past—he approaches every game afresh.
“I start every match as a new one. I read the wicket and play accordingly. Today there was a bit of turn and bounce. We followed the plan and it worked,” he explained.
Ahead of the series, Bangladesh had enjoyed an extended preparation in Sylhet. As Tanzid put it:
“We’ve spent plenty of time here in these conditions, practiced well. It’s not about who performs when, but about understanding the wicket and keeping the winning combination intact.”
Despite not considering himself a natural power-hitter, Tanzid has been working with Julian Wood to improve his power-hitting skills.
“The kind of batter I am, hard-hitting doesn’t come easy. With Julian Wood, I’ve been working on balance and shape to hit cleaner shots. Many of our batters are benefiting from his methods,” he shared.
Friendship, Understanding, and a Promise for the Future
The Tanzid–Imon duo isn’t just delivering performances; they’re igniting fresh hope for Bangladesh’s T20 opening combinations. Their bond off the field, understanding on it, and growing maturity are creating something special.
From an old friendship, new records are being born—signaling brighter days ahead for Bangladesh cricket.
