Tamim Iqbal Slams BCB Over "Laughable" Handling of Towhid Hridoy Suspension
Former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal has launched a scathing attack on the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) over the recent controversy surrounding Towhid Hridoy’s suspension in the Dhaka Premier League (DPL). Appearing before the media for the first time since suffering a cardiac scare earlier this month, Tamim expressed deep dissatisfaction with what he termed “laughable inconsistency” in the board’s disciplinary process.
The drama unfolded when Hridoy, who was handed a two-match ban for misconduct towards umpires during a DPL match, surprisingly returned to play after serving just one match. Following backlash, the BCB reinstated the second match of his suspension—an action Tamim strongly opposed.
“He already served his punishment. Then he played two matches, and now suddenly he’s suspended again? Under what law is this being done? It’s laughable. You can’t suspend someone again after allowing him to play,” Tamim said in a visibly frustrated tone outside the BCB office in Mirpur, where several national players had gathered for a private discussion earlier in the day.
Tamim also criticized the board's handling of broader issues, including alleged match-fixing in the DPL and the controversial reenactment of incidents by the accused players. He expressed disappointment over how sensitive information from the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) related to possible fixing had reached the media, raising questions about confidentiality and internal governance.
“If there are allegations of fixing, investigate thoroughly. But why make the accused re-enact the moment? Why is confidential information leaking? These things damage our cricket and raise serious questions about the board's functioning,” he added.
The veteran batter’s bold stance has sparked fresh debate in the cricketing community, as calls grow louder for the BCB to improve transparency, consistency, and accountability in its disciplinary and administrative processes.
