Bangladesh Collapse Early on Day 2, Bowled Out for 247 in First Innings

Bangladesh’s batting struggles continued into Day 2 of the Colombo Test as the visitors were bowled out for 247 in their first innings, despite a gritty effort from lower-order batter Taijul Islam. Starting the day at 220 for 8, the Tigers added just 27 more runs before being dismissed in 79.3 overs.

Taijul Islam, who had ended Day 1 unbeaten on 9, provided crucial resistance on the second morning. His 33-run knock off 60 deliveries, including five boundaries, gave Bangladesh a respectable finish after the top and middle-order faltered on a relatively good batting surface at the SSC Ground.

Ebadot Hossain, the other overnight batter, was the first to fall on Day 2. He was trapped leg-before by Asitha Fernando for 8 runs in the fourth over of the morning, and a failed review confirmed his dismissal.

Taijul was the final wicket to fall, caught after trying to accelerate. His fighting innings came at a critical moment, helping Bangladesh avoid being bundled out below 230.

On debut, Sri Lanka’s Sunal Dinusha impressed with the ball, finishing with figures of 3 for 22 — a performance that added to Bangladesh's batting woes. None of the top-order batters could convert their starts into significant scores. Sadman Islam came the closest but fell short of a fifty, while set batters like Mushfiqur Rahim (35), Liton Das (34), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (31) also failed to capitalize.

Bangladesh will now rely on their bowlers to make early inroads and keep themselves in the contest after a modest first-innings total.
