The Tigers have begun a new Test series at home, but once again, they have sunk due to familiar batting failures under the leadership of Najmul Hossain Shanto. The struggling team was all out for just 106 runs in their first innings. However, in the very first over of the bowling innings, Hasan Mahmud picked up a wicket. Taijul Islam provided a crucial breakthrough as Bangladesh went into tea with two wickets from the Proteas.
Before the tea break on the first day, South Africa's score stood at 65 for 2, still trailing Bangladesh by 41 runs. Opener Tony de Zorzi was unbeaten on 19 and would resume after tea, while David Bedingham contributed 9 runs.
After being all out for 106, Bangladesh made a strong start with the ball, claiming a wicket in the first over. South African captain Aiden Markram failed to handle Hasan Mahmud and was bowled for just 6 runs. Taijul Islam then dismissed the number three batsman, Tristan Stubbs, with South Africa's second wicket falling at 50 runs.
Despite winning the toss against South Africa in this home Test, Bangladesh could not find any relief. They lost all their wickets in just 40.1 overs for a meager total of 106. Mahmudul Hasan Joy attempted to anchor the innings, scoring 30 runs off 97 balls before also returning with unfinished work. Mushfiqur Rahim presented the cap to Zakir Ali Anik, the country's 105th cricketer, but Zakir's debut was less than memorable as he managed only 2 runs. Keshav Maharaj wrapped up Bangladesh's innings by bowling out the last batsman, Taijul Islam.
