Starting tomorrow, the 2024 Women’s T20 World Cup will implement the Smart Replay System, marking a significant change in the review process for ICC events. This technology has previously been utilized in The Hundred and the IPL.
During the tournament, TV umpires will take advantage of the Smart Replay System, which allows them to view multiple replays on various screens simultaneously. This is the first time the Smart Replay System will be seen in international cricket, although it has been tested in England’s The Hundred and India’s IPL.
With this system, TV umpires will receive enhanced footage through Hawk-Eye cameras, providing more angles and split-screen viewing options for decision-making.
In this new setup, TV umpires will directly receive input from Hawk-Eye operators, who will be located in the same room. Previously, the TV broadcast director served as the intermediary between the third umpire and the Hawk-Eye operators. This new technology removes that role, allowing umpires to access a greater array of images and split-screen visuals.
The implementation of this system will enable umpires to make faster decisions, showcasing advancements in technology. Hawk-Eye cameras will be directly set up in the same room, allowing operators to instantly share field images.
The tournament will kick off with a match between Bangladesh and Scotland in Sharjah, starting at 4 PM BST.
