Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya Fined for Slow Over Rate in IPL Qualifier 2
In the IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 match at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, both team captains — Shreyas Iyer of Punjab Kings and Hardik Pandya of Mumbai Indians — have been fined for maintaining a slow over rate.
Punjab Kings, under Iyer’s leadership, secured a historic victory to reach their first IPL final in 11 years. However, the triumph was slightly marred as Iyer was handed a ₹12 lakh fine for his team’s failure to complete their overs in the allotted time.
Likewise, Hardik Pandya, skipper of Mumbai Indians, has also been fined ₹12 lakh for the same offense.
According to BCCI’s IPL Code of Conduct, the league has taken a strict stance against slow over rates in the current season. Repeat offenses may lead to increased fines or even match suspensions. However, recent amendments to the rules have replaced direct suspensions with a demerit point system to track consistent breaches.
Despite the fine, Shreyas Iyer’s leadership has earned praise, as Punjab Kings’ qualification for the final marks a significant milestone in the franchise’s history.
