Shamim Patwary Added to Squad After Intense Drama

Shamim Hossain Patwary has been the most talked-about name during the Bangladesh–Ireland T20I series. The left-handed batter was left out of the squad for the first two matches of the three-match series, which immediately triggered controversy following captain Litton Das’s explosive remarks in a press conference.

Litton revealed that both he and head coach Phil Simmons were not consulted before Shamim was dropped. His comments sparked widespread discussion in the cricket fraternity.

Later, chief selector Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu responded, stating that while the selectors listen to the captain’s opinion, they are not obligated to follow it. He also hinted that Shamim could still be included for the final match.

Today (30 November), the Bangladesh Cricket Board confirmed through a press release that Shamim has been added to the squad for the third T20I. The left-hander has represented Bangladesh in 46 international T20Is.

The third and final T20I of the series will be played in Chattogram on 2 December. The series is currently tied 1–1 after the first two matches.
