Shakib Al Hasan Suspected of Involvement in Subversive Activities Against Awami League Government: Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Orders Secret Investigation
Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has raised suspicions that cricketer Shakib Al Hasan might be involved in subversive activities against the Awami League government. As a result, she has ordered a secret investigation into the matter.
Reports have surfaced suggesting Shakib Al Hasan's support for student protests and his alleged involvement in subversive activities against the Awami League and its then-Prime Minister. These allegations have reached Sheikh Hasina’s attention.
A secret document from the Prime Minister's Office identifies Shakib Al Hasan as a financier and instigator of the July Movement. The Daily Star recently published an investigative report based on documents obtained from Ganabhaban, the Prime Minister’s residence, revealing that Shakib Al Hasan was accused of being involved in subversive activities against the government.
According to a report found at Ganabhaban, intelligence agencies had advised Sheikh Hasina to monitor former MP Shakib Al Hasan, who had fled to India after the mass uprising. During this period, Shakib was alleged to have financed and incited protests, making him one of the key figures suspected of subversive actions against the government.
The Daily Star article further noted that a list of six individuals, identified as "financiers and instigators," was found among the documents recovered from the rubble. Two names on this list stand out: former police chief Benazir Ahmed and cricketer-turned-politician Shakib Al Hasan. The report also mentioned that these two individuals were recommended for internal investigation in a confidential manner.
